University of Glasgow - Joseph Black Library

The Chemistry Library is situated in the Joseph Black building within the University of Glasgow’s main campus. Many of the original features of the space were to remain, therefore Alpha used a combination of wood finishes, fabrics & wall-coverings to compliment these elements.

The space offers the students a range of environments to work in. A variation of acoustic products are used to segregate study areas from break out spaces; whilst enclosed meeting booths give students the opportunity to collaborate without disrupting others. The existing space presented limited access to power, therefore providing furniture with integrated modules was a key part of the re-design in allowing student to study more efficiently.

Bespoke light fittings were manufactured to achieve a specific look and feel, whilst still providing adequate lighting.
